The Muskegon Catholic Crusaders entered Friday night with a chance to take home the undisputed Lakes Eight title with a win over Orchard View in their conference finale. They did exactly that, dominating the Cardinals in a 41-0 victory.
Five minutes into this contest, Dane Rutz got the scoring started with an eight yard touchdown run. Max Price would double the lead on a twenty-seven yard touchdown run of his own. The Crusaders took this 14-0 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, it was more of the same for Muskegon Catholic. Tommy Kartes kept the momentum rolling with a three yard touchdown run of his own. Price and Elliott Riegler paired up on a ninety-yard explosive passing play for the fourth touchdown of the half. This was one of two completions on just three passing attempts by Price on the night.
Ahead 28-0, the Crusaders continued to build their lead in the second half. Tommy Kartes would scored the lone touchdown in the third quarter, as he ran across the goal line from ten yards out. A touchdown run by the running back Hill from a yard out would extend the lead to its final margin of 41-0.
Muskegon Catholic Central’s offensive line was a machine in this game, opening the holes for running backs all night long. The Crusaders had 40 carries for 333 yards and five touchdowns, an impressive 8.3 yards per carry. The entire offensive line will be given the nod as Redi Rental Crusaders of the Game for their hard work.
Next week, the Crusaders will look to complete their undefeated regular season when they take on Holton. Orchard View will also conclude the regular season against Kent City.
