The South Christian Sailors are trying to keep pace in the OK Gold Grand Rapids Catholic Central sits as the favorite in the league. If South Christian plays to the level that they have shown at times this season, they will have their fair shot to make an impact on the OK Gold race. They defeated the FHE Hawks 35-12, although the game was closer than the score led on.
Ty Rynbrandt took to the air to get South Christian started, and he connected with Elliott Grashuis for the opening touchdown on a three-yard pass. This seven-point drive was the only scoring in the first quarter of play.
Just six seconds into the second quarter, South Christian struck again. Rynbrandt andĀ Sam MeengsĀ paired up for a thirty-one yard touchdown to double the Sailors’ lead. Before the teams went to the locker room, Possett ran in a four yard touchdown to give South Christian a 21-0 edge.
Forest Hills Eastern got on the board in the third quarter as Cal Doyle and Grant Lancaster teamed up on a twenty-five yard pass play. They failed to convert the extra point, but they were inching closer to this game. South Christian responded late in the quarter on a thirty-two yard interception return by Jack Schreur. At 28-6, the Sailors had to feel good about their chances to win.
In the fourth quarter, each team scored a touchdown. Doyle and Lancaster connected for the second time, this go around was an eighteen yard toss. South Christian finished the scoring with a one-yard plunge by Chandler VanSolkema.
With this victory, South Christian sits at 2-0. They will take on Ottawa Hills next week in a game that will be broadcast LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio. The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks are now 1-1 and they will host Kenowa Hills next Friday.
