The Freeland Falcons returned to TVC action on Friday, squaring off against the Alma Panthers. This has been a one-sided series as of late, with Freeland winning the last six contests in the series, including last year 64-0. On Friday night, it was better for Alma, but the end result remained the same. Freeland had little challenge in their 42-13 victory.
In the first quarter, Freeland struck first on a 10-play, 53-yard touchdown drive. Keenan Cooper capped off the march by mashing through the trenches for a 1-yard carry.
Freeland’s lead continued to grow in the second quarter with a pair of scoring plays. First, Elijah Washabaugh took to the air, connecting with Wilson Huckeby for a 9-yard touchdown. Later in the frame, Carson Worth used his legs for a 4-yard carry, allowing the Falcons to take a 21-0 halftime lead.
Alma started the scoring in the second half, with quarterback Penn Seelye finding Gavin McConnell for a 60-yard touchdown strike. Freeland responded with a pass from Washabaugh to Zander Wheatley that went 15 yards, the ninth play of a 62-yard touchdown drive.
In the final stanza, Keenan Cooper scored twice more for the Falcons. His two touchdowns were runs of 5 and 17 yards respectively. Sandwiched in between those scores, Penn Seelye provided one more highlight for the Panthers. He used his legs for a 39-yard touchdown run, but a failed conversion left it 42-13 in favor of Freeland.
Despite not scoring, Kellen East tallied 109 rushing yards on 15 carries for the victors. Elijah Washabaugh was efficient with 12/19 passes completed, passing for two scores. Wilson Huckeby added an intereception to his 4-catch, 86-yard performance.
Next week, Freeland (4-1) will square off with Essexville Garber. Alma (1-4) will look to bounce back against Flint Powers.
