It’s week number two in West Michigan HS football – This week it’s a packed Friday night coming again with statewide and west Michigan non-conference matchups that could rank among some of the best we’ll see live on MSR all season! Let’s take a look at the games that you can catch this week, Live on MSR:

GRANDVILLE (1-0) vs CASS TECH (1-0)

The state’s number one team, fresh off a big win over Toledo Central Catholic in week one, Cass Tech will host one of West Michigan’s best on Friday night. The Bulldogs of Grandville – off beating Muskegon 44-40 week one – travel to downtown Detroit. The Dawgs, led by 273 yards and 3 touchdowns from Jayden Terry on the ground and even a pair of passing touchdowns – Including 1 passing and 1 receiving TD for senior Josh Crater picked up a week one statement win. They will have to slow down 2-way standout UNC commit CJ Sadler and one of the nation’s top QBs in sophomore Donald Tabron II, if they are to earn a massive statement week 2 win on the road.

ROCKFORD (0-1) vs MUSKEGON (0-1)

A battle of of 0-1 teams, that come as a true surprise to each be 0-1 headed into their matchup at Hackley Stadium. The Big Reds falling to the aforementioned Bulldogs and the Rams falling to Tommy Carr and Saline at home last weekend. The matchup between the Rams defense and Big Reds offense will be really fun, as the Rams return a ton of defensive talent and will prove to be one of the area’s best units, and Muskegon was able to put up 40 explosive points, mostly all on the ground in old-school Muskegon fashion returning to routing their pistol veer ‘Ski-Gun’ approach with QB Lamar Bradford and slot Arquez Petty leading the way last week.

FREELAND (1-0) vs BRIDGEPORT (0-1)

This could be a chance for Freeland to really flex some muscle, they are coming off a 35-0 win week one vs Saginaw United, while Bridgeport fell 66-0 to Caro the first week of the season. The Falcons were among the state’s best in their division last year and looking to keep tat kind of momentum going early in ’25.

COOPERSVILLE (0-1) vs WEST CATHOLIC (0-1)

Coopersville and West Catholic are each looking for a bounce back in week two after Coopersville fell to Ludington and WC lost to Northview to open the season. This game will feature a great QB battle with Freshman Champ Kelly in his second game at the reigns of the Broncos and experienced senior lefty Grady Augustyn for the Falcons.

WAYLAND (1-0) vs SPARTA (1-0)

A pair of 1-0 teams coming off solid week one victories at Wayland this week. A game that is a rematch of a tight 21-13 Wayland victory a year ago, expect another physical classic in this one.

GR CATHOLIC CENTRAL (1-0) vs ST THOMAS MORE (CA)

GRCC continues their tour of the nation *make that continent* after winning down in Indiana last week in impressive fashion, coach Kolster and sophomore QB Odin Spencer now host St Thomas More out of Hamilton, Ontario. The Cougars will look to repeat the results of this matchup that was also at ‘The CAT’ last year, when CC won 34-7.

ZEELAND WEST (1-0) vs WEST OTTAWA (0-1)

The reigning state champ Dux won big over Old Redford to open up a the new era under coach Jeff Bolhouse with much of the same that we saw over the past two decades with John Shillito. West Ottawa lost a tight one to grand ledge with a new look team that’s looking to build into a playoff contender in the OK-Red this season. They will meet at Zeeland Stadium in a rematch of a 20-point ZW win a year ago that was played at WO.

TRI-COUNTY (1-0) vs SANFORD-MERIDIAN (0-1)

After a solid week one win over Ovid-Elsie the Vikings will look to keep up the momentum vs a hungry Sanford-Meridian team that fell in a heartbreaker in OT to Bullock Creek 18-12 last week.

NEWAYGO (0-1) vs CENTRAL MONTCALM (1-0)

A  rematch of a playoff classic won 35-34 last year by Newaygo in the district finals. The Lions come in 0-1 after falling to Kent City to open 2025 and will look to bounce back vs the Hornets, who are flying high off a week one 36-16 win over Houghton Lake.

HUDSONVILLE (1-0) vs EAST LANSING (0-1)

Last year Hudsonville bounced back from a week one loss with a tough late game vicory over EL, and they wouldn’t lose again until the state title game. They look to have this game serve as a simialr catalyst, but carry momentum off a win over 2024 D2 state title runner-up Byron Center last week. Coach Feraco’s Trojans suffered a surprising drubbing of a 45-0 loss vs Portage Central last week, they will be hungry for a statement revenge win.

EGR (0-1) vs SOUTH CHRISTIAN (1-0)

South Christian was able to get off to a good star in 2025 with a solid win over GR Christian on the road last year, as they look to make a return trip to Ford Field again this year afer falling a game shy of a three-peat of trips last year. EGR lost big to Lowell, but the re-worked and now more power-heavy on offense Pioneers will look to earn a physical win over the traditionally quick-strike and spread-it-out Sailors.

MANTON (1-0) vs BEAL CITY (1-0)

Manton and Beal City each will look to stay perfect on the young campaign in a week 2 class at Beal City. Manton took down Vestaburg impressively 44-0, while Beal City took down Ravenna 15-2. So, defense has been the operative work for each of these teams so far – as neither defense allowed a single point last week.

FHN (0-1) vs JENISON

After falling 31-28 in week one to Kenowa Hills, QB Owen Ostipow and the Huskies will look to bounce back vs the Wildcats who are looking to make a big step in year two under coach Josh Lucas. Jenison earned a 28-7 win over Kalamazoo Central to open the year and need to pocket all of the wins they can for playoff positioning before the OK-Red slate begins…
