The Central Montcalm Hornets needed a win over 1-6 White Cloud in their final CSAA White contest to claim the outright title. Last week’s victory over Lakeview had given them at least a share. The Hornets looked motivated from the start, capturing the crown with a 62-6 thrashing of the Indians.

Anthony Schultz had another incredible evening for Central Montcalm. The senior tailback accounted for five touchdowns in the victory. He scored the game’s first two scores, with 1-yard touchdown runs on each of the Hornets’ opening drives.

White Cloud found their lone touchdown late in the first quarter, when Jayden Graves hauled in a 16-yard touchdown catch. Before the frame ended, Schultz broke off a 57-yard run, racing past the oncoming White Cloud tacklers for another score, giving Central Montcalm a 21-6 lead.

Emmett Lingeman displayed his strong passing ability in the second quarter, throwing a pair of touchdown passes. His first scoring throw went to Brayden Peak, a 9-yard connection. On the next Hornets drive, Lingeman and Zayne Cooper linked up for a 49-yard touchdown pass.

The final scoring play of the first half came with 37 seconds left, as Anthony Schultz returned to the end zone. His three-yard carry gave Central Montcalm a 40-6 advantage.

After missing out on the running clock by a point in the first half, the Hornets quickly exceeded the threshold coming out of the locker room. On their opening drive, it was Anthony Schultz again, this time scoring on a 16-yard carry to trigger the merciful clock.

Although possessions were limited the remainder of the game, Central Montcalm managed to score twice. Johnny Rebollar, a senior running back, added to the final tally with a 16-yard touchdown carry. With just over seven minutes to play, Keegan Williams, another Hornets’ senior, concluded the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown.

The 62 points scored by Central Montcalm is the most it has scored all season, and the most they have posted since September 2017 in a 66-30 win over Fremont. In eight games, the Hornets have now outscored their opponents 349-91.

In Week 9, Central Montcalm will square off with Hart. The Pirates (4-4) should be a formidable challenge for the Hornets as they tune-up for the postseason.
