The fourth week of the MHSAA football season provided some key conference matchups for several teams throughout the state. Below, you can find the scores, stats and links to articles that our team covered this Friday.

Big Rapids 49 Chippewa Hills 7: The Cardinals started out strong, scoring the first 35 points in this CSAA contest. Big Rapids rushed for 275 yards as a team, with Jack Bollman’s 91 yards leading the way. Garrett Foster found the end zone twice on his five carries, and Cole Haist found him for a 1-yard passing touchdown as well.
Caledonia 36 Grand Haven 28: The Fighting Scots responded after a tough loss last week to begin OK Red play. This week, they battled with Grand Haven, emerging with an 8-point victory, despite being outgained 414-334. Brody Betser continued his strong play, contributing to all five touchdowns. Betser was 16/26 passing for 172 yards and three scores, and added 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Colins hauled in a pair of Betser’s touchdown passes. Luke Berry was equally as strong for Grand Haven in defeat. He finished 16/22 passing for 230 yards and two scores, both to Will Korenstra. Korenstra had 124 receiving yards, while Andrew Willemsen rushed 25 times for 165 yards and two scores.

Cedar Springs 35 Kenowa Hills 28: The Red Hawks and Knights squared off in the latest River Cities Alliance showdown. After spotting Kenowa fourteen points, Cedar Springs scored a pair of touchdowns to even the count. Kenowa would regain the lead again, before Cedar Springs scored 21 unanswered to create separation. The victors once again flexed their muscle on the ground, rushing for 390 yards as a team. Spencer Schoeborn had 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Marek Oleenak added 104 rushing yards. Kaiden Dreyer also found the end zone twice, finishing with 88 yards on the ground. Grayson Fellows passed for 235 yards on 15/22 passing in defeat.
Central Montcalm 49 Morley-Stanwood 0: The Hornets made their debut in their new look CSAA division, thrashing the Mohawks of Morley-Stanwood. All seven touchdowns came in the first half, with 31 points coming in the first quarter. Cam Bracey returned a punt for a touchdown for the second straight week. Jamison Johns stepped in front of a Morley pass returning it for a touchdown, one of three Central Montcalm interceptions on the night.

Forest Hills Eastern 51 Grand Rapids Christian 6: The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks began OK White play with a statement performance, dominating the Eagles in a Battle of the Birds. Max Ferrick rushed for four touchdowns in the victory, racking up 173 rushing yards on 15 carries. Jordan Shabazz, Ari Hammond and Kenric Penkevic joined Ferrick in the end zone, as the Hawks rushed for 310 yards and seven scores.

Fremont 41 Grant 6: The Packers snapped an 8-game losing streak to earn their first victory of 2024. Fremont had little trouble with their former CSAA foe, scoring the final 41 points unanswered. It was a big night for Karter Frens, who turned 21 carries into 268 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Khai Noordyk added 116 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Brayden Crosley finished with 66 rushing yards and a pair of scores.
Fruitport 35 Muskegon Catholic Central 14: The Trojans and Crusaders met in a battle of former conference foes, a series renewed for the first time since 2015. Kalan Teeter was strong for Fruitport, scoring twice while racking up 98 rushing yards. In defeat, Bryan Convertini had 90 rushing yards for MCC, who slides to 1-3.

GR Catholic Central 41 Middleville 6: The Cougars shook off their tough defeat last week, cruising past Middleville in a rout. Kamall Hillard had a strong performance, with six carries for 115 yards and three touchdowns. In total, GRCC outgained Middleville 305-172.
Hamilton 35 Wayland 0: The Hawkeyes began OK White play with a strong performance against Wayland. Hamilton outgained Wayland 362-127 in this rout. Brooks Hawkins finished the game with 88 rushing yards and a pair of touchdown runs for the victors. This is the second loss in a row for Wayland, who slides to 2-2, while Hamilton improves to 3-1.

Holland Christian 51 Ottawa Hills 8: The Maroons handed the Bengals their 27th straight defeat with another strong offensive showing. Evan Abberger rifled five touchdown passes, including a pair to Isaiah Meyaard. It was a career night for Meyaard, who added a pair of punt return touchdowns to his tally.

Mendon 54 Athens 0: The Hornets posted their second shutout of the season to improve to 4-0 on the year. Athens was held to just 35 yards of offense in this game, outgained 390-35. James Lux paced the Hornets rushing attack with 176 yards, while Owen Gorham added 110 yards. Mason Wilczynski had 76 rushing yards, adding in two rushing scores. This was the debut for Mendon in the SCAA Red, while Athens slides to 0-4. In four wins, the Hornets have outscored their opponents 261-34.

South Christian 49 Wyoming 6: The Sailors began OK Gold action with a dominating performance against the Wolves. South Christian scored the first 28 points in this game to create instant separation. Carson Vis completed 8/11 passes for 243 and two scores, with both touchdowns and 184 yards going to Owen Burgess. In defeat, Jack Terveen finished with 131 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Tri County v Newaygo: The Vikings and Lions are in the fourth quarter, with Newaygo leading 35-30. The final 8 minutes will resume on Saturday at 12:00, with the teams electing to play tomorrow after play was halted following the collapse of a Tri-County player. The final eight minutes will be broadcast LIVE on Michigan Sports Radio on Saturday.
Unity Christian 43 Forest Hills Central 20: The ‘Saders improve to 4-0, capturing a victory in their conference opener. In defeat, Nick Williams still passed for a pair of scores, adding 83 rushing yards. Max Holser was a versatile threat for FHC as well, as he caught a touchdown, rushed for a score, and recorded 7 tackles.
