DOUBLE DRIBBLE: GIRLS BASKETBALL RECAP 2/5/2023

1/30/23

  • Hackett Prep defeated Centreville, 51-36. Alyse Baughman had a big night for the Irish with 18 points. Layne Ridderman had herself a night with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Sophomore Addie Smucker finished with 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.
  • Hart grabbed a win over White Cloud on Monday, 61-27. The Pirates held a solid halftime lead and never really looked back in this one. Abby Hicks brought a ton of energy in the third quarter as she went on to help the her team with 18 points and 8 steals. Addi Hovey was big with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals.
  • Vicksburg traveled to Lakeshore and picked up a hard fought win over the Lancers to improve to 15-0 on the season.
  • Whitehall knocked off Newaygo, 28-21. The Lions actually held the lead at the half but would get outscored 18-10 in the 2nd. Amaya Lathrop led the Lions with 7 points. Ashley Tenbrink led the Vikings with 9 points. Newaygo will fall to 4-11 on the season. Whitehall is now 9-6.

1/31/23

  • Central Montcalm was able to get going late to knock of the visiting Charlotte Orioles, 48-36.
  • Fennville lost to Constantine on Tuesday, 25-42. Down big at the half, the Blackhawks just couldn’t mount a comeback on the night.
  • Greenville picked up a big non- conference win over Ionia, 61-28. Alexus Dunn paced the Yellow Jackets with 23 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.. Megan Leslie was big with 2 points, 11 rebounds and 7 steals.The Jackets would come out torrid in this one as they took a 30-15 lead into halftime. Greenville would face a very tough East Grand Rapids team on Friday.
  • Grant picked up a win over Fremont, 62-52. The Tigers really picked up their press in the 2nd half to take momentum of the game. Grant was led by Julie Ashbaugh who finished with 25 points (13-14 from the FT line) on the night. Jaycee Hance and Josie Pleune each added 13 points to help the scoring attack. Jessica Bennett (20 points) and Olivia Hansen (16 points) led the Packers.Despite the loss Fremont head coach Wes Zerlaut was happy with his teams performance, “Our effort and energy were outstanding again tonight. We got off to a quick start offensively and that seemed to build some confidence. We did a really good job of getting the ball inside tonight and we rebounded well throughout the game. Take away their runs to end the third and begin the fourth, and we’re right there”.
  • Hart was off and running over Morley Stanwood to knock off the Mohawks, 55-29. The Pirates really set the tone in this one as they continued to build the lead throughout the night. Abby Hicks led Hart with 20 points, 8 steals and 6 rebounds. Mariana VanAgtmael pitched in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Addi Hovey would together an extremely impressive night with 7 points, 5 assists, 9 steals, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks.
  • Martin picked up a hard fought win over Berrien Springs, 43-38. Makayla Goddard led the Clippers with 10 points. The win will move Martin to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in conference.
  • Montague came up short against Mason County Central, falling to the Spartans 32-39. Emma Peterson led the Wildcats with 9 points. Britta Johnson added 8 points.
  • Muskegon grabbed a win over Traverse City Central, 47-39. The Lady Reds were led by Ty’Veonna Davis with 21 points. Lucia France led the Trojans with 15 points. Muskegon moves to 10-5 and will take on a hot Reeths-Puffer team on Friday. Traverse City Central falls to 11-3.
  • Newaygo couldn’t limit Holton late, falling to the Red Devils 29-42. Naomi Schillman led the Lions with 12 points.
  • North Muskegon fell in a tough battle to Holland Black River, 30-34. Olivia Hayes led the charge for the Rats with 14 points. Grace Philpot led the Norse with 15 points.
  • Otsego beat Gull Lake, 51-18. The Bulldogs are now 8-7 on the year. Otsego was led by Jenna Ballman (11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Tessa Prough added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
  • Ravenna pulled out a tough battle with Chippewa Hills, knocking off the Warriors 31-28. Emma Gillard led the Bulldogs with 16 points.
  • Reeths-Puffer held on to beat Ludington, 42-39. This one was tight throughout as the game came right down to the wire. The Orioles would have a chance to tie it late but the shot wouldn’t fall. The loss will move Ludington to 11-4 on the season. With the win the Rockets have now won 7-straight. Sophia Hekkema led all scorers on the night with 13 points. Brooklyn Tornes added 10 points for the Rockets. The Orioles were led by Emma McKinley with 10 points.
  • South Christian continues their solid play as they picked up a win over Caledonia, 44-36. They face another stiff test in their next outing when they take on Forest Hills Eastern.
  • Spring Lake got off to a big start in their win over Western Michigan Christian, defeating the Warriors 66-27. Alexa Carter finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Ellie Wrona added 11 points. Nia Theune pitched in 10 points.

2/1/23

  • Gobles defeated Saugatuck, 58-48. Erica Barber led the Tigers with 19 points and 2 steals. Kennadi Killeen added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
  • Hart welcomed in Ravenna and knocked off the Bulldogs on Thursday night, 65-29. The Pirates really led this one throughout on their Senior Night. Aspen Boutell had a big night finishing with 18 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Addi Hovey was big with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Abby Hicks finished off a balanced scoring attack with 11 points, 6 steals and 5 assists.
  • Kalamazoo Christian picked up a win over Loy Norrix, 67-42. Wendy Miedema and Kennedy Lockett both led the Knights with 12 points apiece.

2/2/23

  • Montague pulled out a nail-biter over Ludington, 28-21. The Wildcats were able to limit a strong Oriole offense holding Ludington to just 5 points in the 2nd half. Haylee Schwarz led the Wildcats with 7 points and 11 rebounds.
  • North Muskegon was able to fend off Shelby, 31-23. The Norse improve to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in conference. Grace Philpot led North Muskegon with 10 points on the night. Georgia Skujins grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Oakridge visited Fremont on Thursday and picked up a 40-37 win over the Packers. The Eagles jumped up early in this one but Fremont would settle things down to take the lead heading into the half. Oakridge was led by Anna Lundquist who finished the night with 18 points. Fremont was led by Jessica Bennett who finished with 12 points.

2/3/23

  • East Grand Rapids picked up a win over Greenville, 67-55. Pioneers head coach Troy Hammond was able to pick up his 100th victory at East Grand Rapids with the win. Macy Brown put up 27 points to lead all scorers. Megan Leslie put up 26 for the Yellow Jackets. Alexus Dunn added 10.
  • Edwardsburg fell to Three Rivers, 39-48. Gabby Charvat paced the Lady Cats with 18 points. Allie McGlothlen added 11 points. The loss drops the Lady Eddies to 10-5.
  • Fennville fell to Coloma on Friday, 32-45. The Blackhawks came found themselves down quickly in this one and they would trail by double-digits at the half. Kyli Bushee led Fennville with 18 points.
  • Hopkins put together a big final quarter to close out a win over Sparta, 48-35. The Vikings trailed after three quarters of play before going on a 16-1 to end the game. They move to 12-4 and 8-0 in the OK Silver. Nevaeh Helderop led Hopkins with 16 points on the night. Mady Weber pitched in 13 points.
  • Kent City picked up a road win at Chippewa Hills, 50-17. Lexie Bowers led the Eagles with 19 points, 8 steals and 6 rebounds. Madelyn Geers added a big night by pitching in 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks.
  • Lowell was able to end a 2-game slide as they got back in the win column over Northview, 62-28. Piper Risdon (25 points) and Braxcynn Baker (22 points) both had big nights to lead the Lady Red Arrows. They’ll look to grab another when they take on Greenville on Tuesday.
  • Martin pulled out a win over Gobels, 56-42. Charlotte Zantello and Kennadi Killeen both had big nights for the Tigers with 15 points and 6 rebounds apiece.
  • Mona Shores would grab a win over Holland, 39-27. The win moves the Sailors to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in conference. The Dutch drop to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in conference. Khaleeya Cook led Mona Shores with 12 points. Ariana Gray led Holland with 10.
  • Otsego put together a big win over Niles, 62-25. The Bulldogs will improve to 9-7 on the season. Haley Guerrant led Otsego with 14 points and 5 rebounds on the night. Aly Aldrich finished with 10 points and 4 steals. Tessa Prough was big with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.
  • Parchment picked up a senior night win over Constantine, 33-27. They’ll look to see if they can build off the win when they take on Holland Black River on Monday. The Falcons will take on Berrien Springs in their next outing.
  • Portland picked up their 3rd win a row by defeating Charlotte, 71-16. The Raiders were led by Erica Russman (14 points), Malia Thelen (11 points), Lilly Thelen (11 points) and Bella Spitzley (10 points).
  • Rockford picked up a big win over a solid Grand Haven team, 74-31. With the win the Rams are now sitting at a stellar 14-1 on the year.
  • Schoolcraft took down Lawton, 44-28. The Eagles were able to put together a big 16-3 4th quarter to take full control of the game. McKenna Macon led the Lady Blue Devils with 13 points and 4 steals.
  • Spring Lake fell to Coopersville in an OT thriller, 53-57. The Lakers were led by Brooke Bolthouse with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Ella Andree added 10 points and5 rebounds. The Broncos would knock down 10 three-pointers in the game as they shot lights out for most of the night. Coopersville was led by Dannyka Johnson with 18 points. Evelyn McEachen added 14 points. The loss will drop Spring Lake to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the OK Blue. They will take on undefeated West Catholic on Tuesday.
  • Vicksburg cruised to a 61-41 win over Paw Paw to move to 16-0 on the season. They will face a Lawton team that is struggling as of late.
  • White Cloud defeated Newaygo, 33-27. Naomi Schillman led the Lions with 14 points.Newaygo falls to 4-13 on the season. The Indians now sit at 8-7.
  • Zeeland West picked up a huge win over Zeeland East, 55-19. The Dux handled this one right away as they would take a 37-7 into the half. Jordyn Klassen led West with 12 points. Lindy Gulker added 11 points. With the win the Dux improve to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the OK Green.
