The Mendon Hornets travelled up to Fennville to take on the host Blackhawks. Four touchdowns in the first quarter helped Mendon secure a 44-8 victory.
On their first drive, the Hornets found the end zone. Evan Lukeman reeled off an 11-yard touchdown run. Jack McCaw added the conversion, and Mendon led 8-0. The next series saw an equal level of success for Mendon, as they reached the end zone again. Luke Schinker and Gabe Haigh connected for the next score, a 67-yard passing strike.
Trailing 14-0, Fennville finally broke the scoring drought. Ben Peterson linked up with Devohn Calhoun on an 18-yard touchdown toss. Ben Peterson kept the football for the two-point conversion, trimming the deficit to six.
Mendon would end the first quarter with two touchdowns to pad their lead. Luke Schinker used his legs for a pair of scores, runs of 1 and 11 yards respectively. Jack McCaw would chip in a conversion, and it was 28-8 Mendon.
The second quarter saw the Hornets push their lead out further. Evan Lukeman scored forty-nine seconds into the frame with a 21-yard carry. Jack McCaw closed out the scoring with an Octopus. He rushed for the 24-yard score, and added a conversion catch from Schinker.
Mendon outgained Fennville 394-302 in this game. Four turnovers were crushing for Fennville, as they lost three fumbles and tossed an interception. Jack McCaw was the leader of the Mendon offensive approach with 131 rushing yards on 15 carries. Evan Lukeman added 98 rushing yards on 16 carries. Ben Peterson rushed for 91 yards and passed for 133 in defeat for Fennville.
Mendon, now 4-2, will continue SWMFL action next week against Bangor. Fennville slides to 3-3, and they will take on Northpointe Christian on Friday in a non-league bout.
