The extra letter in Orchard Lake St. Mary’s nickname proved to be the difference in this Week 2 battle. OLSM was able to outlast Hudsonville to capture a 23-14 victory.
In the first quarter, Jenner Leib provided the lone scoring play. His 31-yard field goal gave OLSM a 3-0 advantage.
Hudsonville would respond in the second quarter, as Trey Carr kept it for a 4-yard score. Ian Munoz converted the extra point to push the lead to four points. OLSM would not go to half quietly, instead responding with a score. Brayden Ledin paired up with Antwon Thomas on a 33-yard touchdown strike. This gave the Eaglets a 10-7 lead as the squads went to halftime.
OLSM continued their run after the break. Ledin and Ryan Mooney were a 33-yard touchdown duo early, as Ledin launched the ball downfield. The extra point was blocked, leaving the count at 16-7 OLSM. Hudsonville would get within two, 16-14, when Trey Carr found Eli Vanderveen for a 33-yard touchdown. With a quarter to play, Hudsonville trailed by two, 16-14.
The Eagles had two drives in the fourth quarter, and they walked away with zero points. OLSM, meanwhile, added an insurance touchdown. Ledin rounded up his day for a 27-yard touchdown to Duke Coats.
Trey Carr finished 19/37 throwing for Hudsonville, with 199 yards. Carr was the leading rusher for Hudsonville as well, turning 13 carries into 42 yards. Eli Vanderveen’s 60 yards were best on the team, but Jack Uhlig led the group in catches with 5. Defensively, Chase Ciolek and Joshua Roosien each had 10 tackles for Hudsonville.
Brayden Ledin was efficient for OLSM. He completed 24/28 passes for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Eaglets, now 1-1 on the year, will take on Naperville North (IL) next week. Hudsonville slides to 0-2 after a pair of tough losses to East-side clubs. They will start the OK Red gauntlet with Grandville.
