Reed City’s quest for another playoff run opened today with the 62-16 win over Orchard View, spoiling the return of Cardinals football after a 2021 season without a varsity team.

Orchard View got their first touchdown in nearly two years on a 62-yard run by Alexander Theile and two-point conversion early in the 1st quarter. On the following kickoff, Seth Jackson of Reed City had a house call on an 84-yard return. Reed City converts the two-point attempt to even the score at 8.

The Coyotes didn’t look back from that point. Noah Morgan pounded a 2-yard run in. Followed closely was a pass from Xavier Allen to Seth Jackson that led to six more points. At the end of the first quarter, it was a 24-8 lead for Reed City.

The Coyotes stuck to their ground and pound in the second, starting with a 5-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion. Spencer Hansen wanted to join the fun when he rushed across the goal line to put Reed City at 40. The Coyotes put one more touchdown on the board before halftime with the 28-yard run by John Andres and two-point conversion. At the break, Reed City held the 40-point advantage over Orchard View, 48-8.

The 2nd half flew by with running clock in play. Noah Morgan for Reed City rushed for another touchdown. That was shortly followed by a Cardinals touchdown and two-point conversion, snapping a streak of 54 unanswered Reed City points.

The scoring finally ended with the Reed City touchdown and two-point attempt that brought the count to 62-16. The Coyotes start the season off hot. They will travel to Tri-County for a CSAA showdown next week. Orchard View will host North Muskegon next Friday.
