The Britton Deerfield Patriots continued their winning ways on Saturday, moving to 5-0 with a 54-16 victory against Oakland Christian.
In the first half, it was the Nicolas Johnson show. The Patriots’ quarterback, and one of the most explosive players in 8-Man football, was a part of all five touchdowns. In the first quarter, he rushed for touchdowns of 2 and 4 yards. He also contributed to both conversions, rushing for one and passing to Tristan Johnson for the other.
Already ahead 16-0, the second quarter saw three more Nicolas Johnson scores. He broke off a 17-yard touchdown run, and followed that up with a 83-yard gallivant through the Oakland Christian defense. With forty seconds left in the first half, Johnson tossed it to Mason Mueller for a 16-yard score. Johnson converted two of those two-point tries with his legs, and Nick Wayne added the fifth and final successful conversion of the half, giving Britton Deerfield a commanding 40-0 halftime advantage.
Oakland Christian got on the scoreboard in the third quarter, as Jordan Johnson found Joe Shelata on a 65-yard strike. Britton Deerfield would respond with a pair of rushing scores in the frame. Nick Wayne had a 49-yard dash to the end zone, and Tristan Johnson ripped off a 65-yard sprint through the Lancers’ defensive front.
Trailing 54-8, Oakland Christian scored the only fourth quarter touchdown of the night. Jack Legree carried the football 45 yards through the Patriots’ defense for a score. Jordan Johnson tossed his second successful two-point conversion to move the tally to its final count.
With the win, Britton Deerfield is now 5-0. They remain in non-league action this week, as the Webberville Spartans are on the clock. Webberville enters with a 1-4 record, riding a four-game losing skid.
