The Grandville Bulldogs and Jenison Wildcats started their seasons with a 1-3 record. Friday night’s affair was a pivotal match-up for both teams, as they jockey for the playoff push. Grandville took a large step in those efforts, as they cruised to a 49-8 victory.
Three minutes into the game, the Bulldogs got the scoring started. Cade Pilczuk powered across the goal line with a 4-yard touchdown run, and he added the conversion to give the team an 8-0 lead. This was the only scoring play of the opening frame.
Just eight seconds into the second quarter, Grandville extended their lead. Donnie Osborn reeled off a 17-yard run, his second touchdown of the year. This was the first of four scores for the Bulldogs in the half. Mason Albrecht joined the scoring column with his first two scores of the year, on 18 and 20-yard runs. With just six seconds to go in the quarter, Pilczuk plunged across the goal line with a 1-yard score. This gave Grandville a 35-0 lead at the break.
With the running clock in effect, the scoring chances were limited for both teams. Grandville scored twice, while the Wildcats scored once. Cade Pilczuk bolted through the Jenison defense for a 55-yard trip to the end zone. On the final play of the third quarter, Jenison finally got on the scoreboard with a pass of 35 yards from Carter VanManen. Carson Smith rounded out the scoring with a 5-yard score with five minutes to go.
Grandville now sits at 2-3 on the year and 1-2 in the OK Red. Next week, they will take on Grand Haven. Jenison slides to 1-4 with this loss. Their schedule remains tough, as they will face Rockford on Friday.
