The Muskegon Catholic Central Crusaders stepped out of Lakes 8 play for a non-league contest against Benton Harbor. The Tigers entered this game struggling, with losses in their first four games. This allowed the Crusaders to rally from an early deficit, capturing a 29-12 victory.

Benton Harbor got things started on the first drive of this game. Just seventy-one seconds into the action, the Tigers found the end zone. Davionte Tasker, the Tigers’ quarterback, powered across the goal line from six yards out to put Benton Harbor ahead. A missed extra point left their lead at just six points.

In the second quarter, Muskegon Catholic got on the scoreboard. Joe Waller plunged across the goal line from three yards out to push the Crusaders to even. Andrew Rosema booted an extra point to give MCC the lead. Later in the quarter, Elliot Riegler tossed a 38-yard score to Sam Convertini that extended their halftime advantage to nine points, 15-6.

After a scoreless third quarter, Benton Harbor inched closer on the scoreboard. Mike Kirby reeled off a 3-yard touchdown run, but a missed extra point left the Tigers within three points. Over the final eight minutes, Muskegon Catholic Central iced the game with a pair of scores. First, Reigler and Convertini linked up for their second passing touchdown, this a 10-yard toss. With just over a minute to go, Joe Waller capped off the scoring with a one-yard score, his sixth touchdown of the season.

Joe Waller led the Crusaders’ offensive charge with 120 yards on 27 carries. Sam Convertini caught all three of Elliot Riegler’s completions, tallying 77 yards.

With this win, MCC improves to 4-1. They will take on Muskegon Heights in a game that is pivotal in the Lakes 8 Conference race. Benton Harbor slides to 0-5 on the year. They will look for their first win next week, when they face Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
