The boys basketball regular season is entering its final week, and conference races are wrapping up. Before district play starts, we have one week of fantastic non-conference basketball.
Caledonia (9-9)
The Caledonia Fighting Scots had two games this week to wrap up OK Red play, and they split the contests. Tuesday night saw a remarkable offensive output, as the Scots scored 91 points in a 47-point win on the road against Grandville. Three days later, the Scots concluded OK Red play with a game at home against East Kentwood. Despite being tied at halftime, they were unable to keep pace with the Falcons in the second half. The Scots lost 65-55 to finish OK Red play at 5-7 in a three-way tie for fourth place. In the two remaining games in the regular season, Caledonia will hit the road twice. On Tuesday night, they will visit DeWitt. On Friday night, they wrap up the regular season against Okemos.
Central Montcalm (14-4)
The Hornets had a big week, winning two conference games to clinch their first conference title since 2002. On Tuesday, they took care of Reed City in a 62-49 victory. Central Montcalm was led by Trenton Shaffer, who had 20 points. Gunner Hill added 19 points, and Asher Vissman just missed a double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds. On Friday night, the title was clinched with a 78-40 win over the Tri-County Vikings. Hill led the way with 27 points, Vissman added 17 points, while Shaffer and Andrew Johnson both added nine more points. The Hornets will take their seven-game winning streak to non-conference play this week against Shepherd and White Cloud.
Forest Hills Central (14-4)
The Rangers had only one game this week, a home contest against Northview. In that game, FHC was able to clinch the OK White title, winning 57-41. Jimmy Scholler was the star of the show, as he scored 26 points to lead all scorers. Jonah Spates (9 points) and George Hatchett (8 points) also made key offensive contributions. In a pair of non-conference games this week, the Rangers will take on Grandville on Tuesday and Unity Christian on Friday.
Grand Rapids Catholic Central (17-2)
The Cougars had a pair of games this week to wrap up the OK Blue portion of their schedule. GRCC completed their undefeated conference championship with a pair of blowout wins. On Tuesday, they hosted Spring Lake and took home a 73-53 win. On Friday night, they travelled to Comstock Park to play the Panthers and they won 66-23. The regular season concludes with a Thursday night showdown against Ypsilanti Lincoln, the defending Division 1 Champion.
Rockford (6-13)
This week, the Rams only had one game. In their OK Red finale, they hosted West Ottawa. The offense never really got going for Rockford, as they were only to score 40 points in a narrow six-point defeat. With OK Red play complete, the Rams finishing in the three-way tie for fourth place, they have just one game remaining. They will host Lansing Waverly in the regular season finale on Tuesday night.
South Christian (12-7)
This week, the Sailors had a pair of OK Gold games. On Tuesday night, they defeated Forest Hills Eastern by a 53-43 margin. On Friday night, they defeated Grand Rapids Christian 53-35 in an upset of one of the league’s best teams. The Sailors exhibited tenacious defense, sparked by Ryan Dykstra, as they held GRC to just 20% shooting, and they forced 18 turnovers. Sam Meengs led South offensively with 10 points. The regular season will conclude on Tuesday for the Sailors with a home game against East Kentwood.
