We’ve rebranded our Monday article starting this week – to the MSR Monday Rebound – as we’re adding some exciting new features into this one-stop shop to help rank, recap, and preview what’s coming…
We are fully in to the conference season of the HS Hoops calendar – And with that, it’s time to introduce a new feature to our weekly Tuesday slate previews – The RE/MAX Unite Power Poll returns for boys basketball starting again this week!
Just as during football season – the poll will include a ranking of teams from the OK and RCA conferences, plus any other teams that MSR covers (For example – Grant).
Without Further Ado… Here is this week’s Poll! Featuring some breakdown of our rankings and then a quick look at a HUGE Tuesday night of action LIVE on MSR!
POLL BREAKDOWN
- Rockford – The Rams form a 1-2 punch we haven’t seen in a while with a girls team that also sit atop any local (and statewide) polls. This team is deep and had a huge week of wins vs B.C., East Kentwood, and Warren De La Salle.
- Muskegon – Coach Keith Guy might have a perfect mix this year to take a team back to the Breslin Center, junior wing James Martin is one of the most freakish athletes and all around talents in the state leading the way. Their Saturday loss to Brother Rice was their first of the season… it’s splitting hairs between they and the Rams, they’ll settle it in the playoffs…
- Unity Christian – Another very deep team that’s capable of putting 4+ players in double digits every night with elite team wide defense. The ‘Saders have cruised to three straight 20+ point wins – They draw a pair of fast attacking teams in Wyoming and Hamilton this week.
- Northview – Brady Swartz set a school scoring record vs Wyoming and Cam Ryans remains one of the state’s most unique players with the size of a forward playing at point guard – both of these D1 players have Northview firmly in the mix to make a Breslin run.
- Hudsonville – They are deep and big and athletic, even while dealing with some holdover injuries in their backcourt from football season. The Eagles have a huge week coming up that could rocket them up the rankings – as they travel to Rockford and East Kentwood.
- FHC – Coach Jordan George’s team is a hard-nosed group that has found a way to keep winning through their solid defense and smooth shooting offensive game, the Rangers have Catholic Central and Zeeland East this week – a big chance to add on to their momentum from beating EGR last Friday.
- Byron Center – One of the area’s most talented teams – They had a 1-2 week last week – but the record alone doesn’t tell the story – the losses were to the poll’s #1 Rockford (OT) and #2 Muskegon and the win in a showcase over Grand Blanc. When they are playing at their best, the Bulldogs can beat anyone in the state.
- GRCC – Zay Larthridge and Jordan McCoy lead one of the state’s most talented rosters that starting to hit their stride. After beating GR Christian and FHE last week, the Cougars now play FHC and EGR this week – A critical week in the conference week that could catapult them way up this poll by next Monday.
- Greenville AND 10. Grant – We’ll put each of these teams in their own category of the still unbeaten contenders on the list. Grant hails from the CSAA and Greenville from the RCA. While they haven’t each played the same type of statewide top-level competition as the other teams on this list – These teams just keep winning and will be in a race to see who can go the farthest into their conference season with unblemished records.
TUESDAY HOOPS on MSR PREVIEW
Let’s wrap things up by taking a quick look at some of the bug-time matchups that we have coming up on Michigan Sports Radio LIVE on Tuesday.
Girls/Boys DH – Rockford vs Hudsonville – A huge matchup on both sides of the draw, first the eagles girls will look to take down a Rockford team that seems ready to roll back to the Breslin. Then, the boys game features #1 and #5 in in our power poll with both teams also being top 10 in the state in D1… enough said, this will be a primetime matchup between the two teams that likely will duel for the OK Red
Boys – GRCC vs FHC – A Huge game in the race for the OK White between our poll’s #6 and 8 teams. A fascinating matchup that also see two of the area’s youngest head coaches on their respective benches.
Boys – EK vs WO – The GAME NIGHT crew will have a featured game from WO between two of the youngest team’s in the area that match styles. Expect a fun and fast game with both teams that are led by underclassmen running, gunning, and pressuring all over the floor!
