What a weekend that was – Packed to the gills with some incredible action on Friday night all parlayed into an incredible afternoon and evening at Calvin and Hudsonville, where we at MSR got a look at pretty much every top team in West Michigan (and even some of the state’s best).

Now, we’re right back at it with a somewhat uniquely scheduled week, first a lighter night of action coming up tomorrow night on Tuesday – which we’ll preview in this article, before we’ll have a selection of games on Thursday and Friday that will lead us into the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament in the weeks that follow.

Now let’s take a look at Tuesday’s action on MSR!

GRANDVILLE vs UNITY CHRISTIAN – BOYS

Unity Christian won, not one, but two overtime thrilled over the weekend against two of the state’s best. Firs taking down South Christian on their the ‘Saders home floor Friday, before doing the same in an extra period over GRCC at Calvin and the Invite on Saturday. Junior point guard Brogan Sherd had the winning OT buckets in both games and stood out amongĀ  a deep group of scorers for UC in both wins as they have remained unbeaten on the year.

UC will have their first of two D1 OK -Red teams visiting them this week on Tuesday as the 1-3 Grandville Bulldogs visit. Grandville has played a difficult schedule – they have a win over Byron Center on the road to their credit balanced with losses to very stout Northview, HC and Grand Blanc teams.

The ‘Dawgs led Grand Blanc most of the way Saturday at the Hudsonville showcase before he Bobcats turned up the wick in the 4th quarter to take the lead and pull away down the stretch. Grandville will now look for some revenge and become the first team to topple UC this year. Senior wing Colin Heyboer has stood out for Grandville, the 6’6 sniper has been creative all over the floor in his scoring – having scored 14 or more points in every game this year, and averaging 16 per game.

Radio coverage with myself and Chandler Timmer begins at 6:30 with tip-off scheduled for 7:00!

CENTRAL MONTCALM vs CHIPPEWA HILLS – BOYS

Central Montcalm was able to get back in the win column onĀ  Friday night in a big way over Lakeview, taking the nightcap of the Friday Night double header, 60-39. The Hornets led on big scoring nights from their junior backcourt of Evan Rolston and Zayne Cooper. Rolston went off for 20 points in the contest with Cooper just behind him, tallying 19.

They’ll have a good chance to make it the start of a win streak on Tuesday, as they welcome Remus Chippewa Hills to town, the warriors are just 1-5 on the season – But they also have some momentum coming into this game after they won last time out on Friday vs. Reed City 48-36.

The Hornet Nation Sports network on MSR crew will have the live coverage, beginning at 6:40, with 7:00pm tip to follow.

GRANT vs KENT CITY – GIRLS

The grant girls will be back in action as well on Tuesday and will welcome in the always tough test of the Eagles from Kent City, as the Tigers will be looking to get back above .500 on the season after they fell to Newaygo on Friday night.

Kent City has put together a three game win streak after falling to one of the GR-area’s best in Cedar Springs to open the season and the Eagles once again will have their sights set on another conference title and deep playoff chase this year.

Video coverage from Grant begins at 6:50pm, with tip-off set for 7:00.

FOREST HILLS NORTHERN vs MONA SHORES – GIRLS

The FHN ladies are back in action on MSR Tuesday as well, as they host Mona Shores, as the Huskies look to remain perfect on the season – coming into this game at 4-0. Northern took down Hopkins 45-24 last time out and have now allowed 30 or less in 3 of their 4 games – And have wins over good Unity Christian and Lowell teams to add to the record.

The Sailors ladies are 3-1 on the season, with a Northview loss their only blemish, the Sailors have also been very solid on the defensive end of the floor, giving up 34 or less in all three of their wins.

This is a good matchup between a couple of teams that each seemed positioned to make some noise in their conference races this season.

Coverage begins at 6:50, with tip-off set for 7:00!

Check back in in a few days, as we’ll have a preview of everything coming up Thursday, Friday and over the weekend on MSR!
