The sixth week of the 2024 MHSAA football season took place on Friday night, with teams across the area looking for key wins in their playoff pursuits and conference title aspirations. Our team at Michigan Sports Radio has the final scores, stats and links to recaps of the area’s action below:

Forest Hills Eastern 34 Spring Lake 28: The Hawks were able to rally back and defeat the Lakers to pick up their fifth win of the 2024 season. After trailing 14-6 and 21-13, FHE finally evened the score with five minutes to play in the third quarter. The Hawks took their first lead on a Max Ferrick touchdown run with 10:34 to play. A touchdown with 59 seconds to play extended their lead to 13 before Spring Lake scored a late touchdown to trim the final tally. Max Ferrick rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the victors, while Brendan Thompson was 7/12 passing for 157 yards, rushed for 40 yards and accounted for three touchdowns.

Fremont 62 Orchard View 28: The Packers scored 35 unanswered points to break away from the Cardinals in this WMC Lakes battle. Fremont, now 2-4, rushed for 381 yards on 52 carries as a team. Karter Frens had 217 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries. Khai Noordyk added 118 rushing yards and two scores in his 15 carries.
Gobles 54 Eau Claire 0: The Tigers blanked the Beavers to move to 6-0 for the first time since 2011. This was the second shutout for the Gobles defense, as the team has now outscored their opponents 323-70 on the season.

Hudsonville 59 Grand Haven 14: The Eagles improve to 5-1 and 4-0 in the OK Red with a dominating performance against the Bucs. 28 unanswered points allowed Hudsonville to create an early cushion, and they only expanded the lead from there. Griffin Baker passed for a pair of touchdowns, while rushing for a third. Brady Van Laecke and Owen Haarsma each added two second half rushing touchdowns, as Hudsonville has now won 14 consecutive meetings in this series.

Ludington 39 Manistee 38: The Orioles escaped their longtime rivals with a last minute touchdown run. Quarterback Cam Gunsell kept the football for a 1-yard carry, before completing the Octopus with a two-point conversion run. This is just the latest thrilling chapter in the 147th meeting between two lakeshore foes.

Mendon 66 Bellevue 42: The Hornets move to 6-0 with a shootout victory over Bellevue. Mendon built a 20-6 lead after the first quarter, and pushed that to 42-22 at the break. Owen Gorham had 256 yards rushing on 23 carries, scoring six times. Ryder Gorham added a trio of touchdowns, two through the air and the third on the ground. In total, Mendon rushed 36 times for 475 while passing for a season high 141 yards on six completions.

Northview 49 Ottawa Hills 6: The Wildcats are 6-0 for the first time since 1977, taking down Ottawa Hills in convincing fashion. This is the first time since 2018, and just the thirteenth time in 63 years of Northview football that the team has won at least six games in a season. Next week they will face their toughest test, Grand Rapids Catholic Central, before ending with Holland Christian and FHN.

West Catholic 38 Wayland 0: The Falcons shutout the Wildcats in the first-ever meeting between these two programs. West Catholic scored 31 points in the opening half, with David Britenfield leading the way. Britenfield rushed for touchdowns of 4, 7, 13 and 20 yards.

Whitehall 38 Oakridge 7: The Vikings secured their fourth win of the season, dominating the Eagles to maintain their perfect record in the WMC Lakes. Whitehall outgained their opponent 540-91 with 447 yards coming on the ground. Gavin Craner paced the rushing attack with 227 yards on 10 carries, while Camden Thompson added 143 yards and two scores.
