The Coopersville Broncos continued RCA play on Friday night, travelling to Sparta to face the Spartans. In another strong offensive showing, Coopersville emerged with a 42-21 win, improving to 3-1 on the season.
It was a fast start for Coopersville, as they scored the first 21 points of the game. Sam McDonald hauled in the opening score, a 6-yard toss that gave the Broncos a 7-0 lead. It was followed up by Isaac Lemieux, who powered across the goal line from three yards out. Finally, Brooks Hadden secured a 7-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead. This lead would hold as the teams broke for halftime.
Sparta broke the scoring drought with a 31-yard touchdown toss to Dustin Warner. Coopersville immediately responded with a short keeper by Beau Harris, pushing the lead back to 28-7 in favor of the Broncos.
Harris would use his legs again in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, as he raced 49 yards to the end zone. Sparta would respond with another Warner touchdown catch, before Lemieux bolted for a 46-yard Coopersville touchdown race.
With the win, Coopersville is now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the RCA. Next week, they will take on Greenville in another league bout. Sparta, now 1-3, will look for their first win in RCA play against Allendale.
