The Hudsonville Eagles played in a pair of close contests to open their 2024 campaign. It was in a much easier fashion on Friday that the Eagles were able to secure a victory, as they soared past rival Jenison 38-6 in their OK Red opener.

Bryce Fox got things started for the Eagles, as he ran for a 6-yard touchdown on the team’s opening drive. Early in the second quarter, Fox capped off a 50-yard touchdown drive with another carry for a score, this time from 18 yards out.

Ahead 14-0, Hudsonville continued to press the gas offensively. Their lead grew when Griffin Baker found Jack Wills on an 8-yard touchdown connection. Ian Jenkins-Munoz converted a 32-yard field goal to end the first half, lifting the Eagles to a 24-0 advantage.

The third quarter saw the scoring settle down, as two turnovers and several punts resulted in field position constantly shifting. Jenison would eventually capitalize, with Brody Schuiteman reeling off a 10-yard carry for the Wildcats’ first points.

Trailing 24-6, Jenison would get no closer. Hudsonville would pad the existing cushion with a pair of late scores. Owen Haarsma provided the first score, a 25-yard touchdown run, while Brady van Laecke added a 15-yard score to move the game to its final 38-6 tally.

Hudsonville, now 2-1, will have an extremely tall task next week. The Eagles face up against 3-0 Rockford, who had a strong showing against Grandville on Friday. Jenison slides to 1-2 on the year, and they will pair up with those Grandville Bulldogs, now a shocking 0-3, next Friday.
