After a massive weekend of games on Michigan Sports Radio, we’re back for more Tuesday night coverage on a little bit lighter evening of activity across the area, but there still are several significant games in the building conference title races on our air and off of it across west Michigan.
A ‘Grand’ Doubleheader
Off a Friday night sweep of Caledonia on their home floor, the Grandville girls and boys are both back in action on MSR Tuesday. As they welcome in a strong Grand Haven program in a pair of games that could have a significant impact on the O-K Red title races.
The girls open up the night, as Grandville’s girls are fresh off their first conference win of the year, after holding Caledonia to three points at the half and 21 for the game. Grand Haven earned a thrilling three-point, 45-42 win over state top-10-ranked West Ottawa on Saturday. The Lady Bucs are now sitting at 10-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming to Rockford and placing them a game off of East Kentwood’s unbeaten pace in the O-K Red.
The girls tip it off in that one at 5:30pm, with GAME NIGHT’s live video coverage starting at 5:00. The Boys follow, as Grandville’s boys look to continue their momentum and start up another win streak after taking down Caledonia Friday, they enter at 9-3. Grand Haven has now won two in-a-row over Jenison and West Ottawa on back-to-back days and are 6-5 on the season overall.
Grandville was led Friday by a career-outing from their junior wing, Caden Neves. The 6’5 standout had 23 points to bolster a solid all-around scoring day throughout a deep attack from the ‘Dawgs. Grand Haven has watched some increasingly great play from a standout junior of their own in Will Korenstra. The multi-year starting SG led the way in Saturday’s win over West Ottawa with 15 points for the ‘Bucs. Korensta and Neves certainly should provide a fun 2-way wing matchup in the approximately 7:00pm tip in the boys game to close the night!
Bengal-Cougar Battle
Durral Brooks, Carter Meerman and the streaking Cougars of Grand Rapids Catholic Central have now won five straight dating back to their O-K Gold opening win vs. rival South Christian. They will face one of their tougher tests in the ‘Gold’ Tuesday, however.
Ottawa Hills for coach Derrick King are 6-4 on the season and hungry, after they dropped their first game in O-K Gold play last time out vs. South Christian. They are led night in and out by Craig Hureskin, a senior scoring machine that has put up 30+ points in nearly half of Ottawa Hills’ games this year and had 21 of the Bengals 48 as a team vs. South Christian.
It will be a fun test, as the Bengals will look to pull the upset on their home floor, and create a real mess at the top of the O-K Gold standings if they can pull off the statement win.
Non-MSR Broadcasted Games To Watch
There’s plenty of other interesting action to keep your eyes on across the area on Tuesday, led off by a fun game in the race for the OK-White.
*Byron Center will be taking to the road and heading north to Northview in the boys competition. The Wildcats lost their first game of the season at the GottaGetIt Showcase Saturday to Detroit MLK, on a last-second game winner from the Crusaders, 54-53. The Wildcats will look to keep their tied top spot with GR Christian safe against a Byron Center team loaded with talent and athletes that put up an impressive 25-point win over a really strong F.H.C team on Friday; Could the Bulldogs do the same in upset fashion over the ‘Cats and throw a wrench in the race for the O-K White?
*The OK-Blue race picked up a frontrunner on Friday, as Unity Christian took down Coopersville to go alone (unbeaten) at the top of the heap. Now, the Crusaders host Holland Christian, one of the teams just a game back of the Crusaders and nipping at their heels for a chance to take their own claim at the top of the wide-open O-K Blue chase.
*Zeeland West’s boys picked up a massive statement win vs. top-five-ranked and reigning D1 State Champion, Cass Tech Saturday at East Kentwood. That win came a night after a loss to Muskegon, and the Dux schedule does not relent, as they will wrap up a stretch of four games in five nights. After traveling to the Dutch Dome and taking on Holland Monday night, they play host to Mona Shores Tuesday. The Sailors, under first-year head coach and long-time Muskegon assistant Louis Murray, have been one of the most impressive turnarounds in the area – sitting at 9-3 and off to their best start in a decade. Will be an interesting test on short rest for the Dux and a chance for a Sailor statement win to make a run for the O-K Green.
Check back on Friday, as we’ll have previews of a super crowded night of action on MSR then. And, always, check out scores, schedules, and standings – along with the live action – right here on MichiganSportsRadio.com!
