The Caledonia Fighting Scots wrapped up yet another strong regular season campaign. Aside from two loses to heavyweights Grandville and Rockford, Caledonia has been one of the state’s best clubs.

In victory, Caledonia outgained Grand Haven 449-207. 354 of the Fighting Scots’ yards came on the ground.

Maddox Greenfield got the scoring started when he caught a Brody Betser touchdown pass for 26 yards. Later in the quarter, Brock Townsend broke free on a 74-yard touchdown run. Grand Haven would respond with a Dean Mattson touchdown run.

Ahead 14-7, Caledonia scored 21 unanswered in the second quarter to widen the gap. Townsend was on the receiving end of a Betser touchdown pass, a 14-yard connection. Two additional touchdown runs gave them a 35-7 lead at the break.

Betser used his legs on a 2-yard scamper to extend the lead in the third quarter. Townsend followed that run up with a 7-yard carry into the end zone.

Grand Haven would win the fourth quarter 14-8, but that would not nearly be enough to impact the outcome. Evan DeYoung scored on a 6-yard touchdown carry for Caledonia, his first score of the season. Dallas Moody converted the two-point try on the ground.

Caledonia will await their playoff opponent on Sunday evening. Grand Haven, meanwhile, will hang up their cleats and conclude the 2023 campaign with their 1-8 record. This is the second straight year that Grand Haven records just a single victory, both times coming at the expense of Traverse City West.
