The Hudsonville Eagles and Jenison Wildcats met on Friday in the 29th rendition of this neighborhood rivalry. The Eagles were able to extend their series lead to 17-12 with a 21-14 victory.
A Griffin Baker 52-yard run set Hudsonville up for a score on their opening drive. A 6-yard touchdown carry by Bryce Fox gave Hudsonville a 7-0 lead.
Brody Schuiteman was able to cap off the Jenison equalizing drive in the second quarter. On the fifteenth play of a 78-yard drive, Schuiteman powered across the goal line from a yard out.
Van Lake was able to put Hudsonville back ahead in the third quarter with his short touchdown run. Jenison would snag another equalizer early in the fourth quarter when Eli Zeitman used his legs for a 6-yard scamper.
Hudsonville would get a second touchdown run from Bryce Fox in the fourth quarter, a 4-yard run that capped off a 63-yard touchdown march. Jenison had one drive to respond, reaching the Hudsonville 28, but they turned the ball over on downs.
With the win, Hudsonville improves to 5-3. The Eagles play Rockford next week, but likely have their playoff berth secured regardless of that outcome. Jenison slides to 1-7, and they conclude their season against rival Grandville next week.
