The Central Montcalm Hornets picked up a big win over Grant last week, 48-0. This week they had a chance to gain some more momentum to round out the season with the Newaygo Lions in their sights this week.
Central Montcalm grabbed the first score of the night midway through the opening quarter on a Hayden Train 6-yard run. This would give the Hornets a 7-0 advantage after one.
Montcalm picked up even more momentum in the second quarter. This time Train would take one in from a little further out on a 34-yard scoring burst. This gave Montcalm a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter. It wouldn’t take long for the Hornets to strike again. The defense would get involved on an Asher Johnson scoop and score. All Montcalm to that point at 19-0. With just seconds remaining in the opening half the Hornets took full reign in the game on an Anthony Schultz 32-yard run. Montcalm would hold a 25-0 lead after one half.
Both defenses would put together strong third quarters as each offense went scoreless. Midway through the final quarter the Hornets would top off the night on a Schultz 4-yard scamper. This would be the night for Central Montcalm as they knock off the Lions 32-0.
Newaygo had some nice momentum after a thriller last week against Chippewa Hills but couldn’t get any offense going on the night. The Lions fall to 3-5 on the season and take on Comstock Park in their regular season finale next week.
This was a big one for the Hornets as they improve to 4-4 on the year. Both the offense and defense were completely on par with each other in week eight. They take on Lakeview in week eight in what could be a big end to the regular season for Montcalm.
