The Mona Shores Sailors began their playoff trek on Friday night with a home date against Traverse City Central. The Sailors got out to a blazing start, culminating in a 48-20 victory.
In the first quarter, Mona Shores scored three times. After a Brandon Bankard interception, the Sailors scored on their first play. Jonathan Pittman found Jaylen Vinton on a 43-yard touchdown pass.
The next two scores came on the ground. The Farnum brothers, Ke’waun and Dahmir scored on carries of 11 and 1 yard respectively to give Mona Shores a 21-0 edge.
Mona Shores kept the score rolling in the second quarter. Jonathan Pittman and Eric Cotner paired up twice, on touchdown tosses of 21 and 33 yards. Sandwiched in between was a 64-yard touchdown sprint from Brandon Bankard. As a result, Mona Shores took a 42-0 lead into halftime.
The Trojans scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to make the score more interesting, before the Sailors capped off the game with a touchdown in the final minute.
With the victory, Mona Shores advances to the District Finals. They will travel to Ada to take on Forest Hills Central next weekend.
