The Grand Rapids Christian Eagles and South Christian Sailors met for the 53rd time on Friday night. These longtime rivals already played in the season opener to the tune of a 42-7 South Christian victory. On Friday, the exact same score played out. The Sailors advanced with a 42-7 victory.
In the first quarter, South Christian struck twice. Jake DeHaan and Carson Vis paired up for a 22-yard touchdown. On their next drive, DeHaan and Seth Ritsema connected on an 11-yard touchdown.
DeHaan continued to thrive with a pair of second quarter scores. First, he used his legs for a 68-yard sprint to the end zone. Next, he found Ritsema with a 14-yard touchdown strike. As a result, South Christian led 28-0 as the teams broke for halftime.
The third quarter saw the same result for South Christian, two touchdowns. First, Nate Brinks powered across the goal line from two yards out. Next, DeHaan and Ritsema completed the hat trick with an 18-yard touchdown.
With just two minutes remaining, Grand Rapids Christian prevented the shutout. Noah Funk found Dono Thames with a 43-yard touchdown pass.
South Christian improves to 10-0 with this victory. This is the first time they have won ten games in a season since 2014. Jake DeHaan completed his strong performance with 12/18 passing for 216 yards and 4 touchdowns. He added 84 rushing yards and a fifth touchdown on 4 carries.
Next week, the Sailors will look to secure a District Championship against Unity Christian.
