The Caledonia Fighting Scots took their 6-0 record to the Lakeshore to take on Grand Haven. The Bucs pushed Caledonia early, but bowed out in a 47-12 defeat.
In the first quarter, each team scored twice. Blake Herron found the end zone first for Caledonia, a 4-yard carry on their opening drive. Moments later, the Bucs bounced back with a 37-yard touchdown toss from Xzavier Rodriguez to Will Korenstra. Mason McKenzie would air it out for Caledonia, finding DJ Walker on a 16-yard score. Grand Haven got their answer when Rodriguez found Alex Dixon on a 45-yard touchdown. Unfortunately for Grand Haven, they missed both extra points, so they trailed 14-12.
Over the final three quarters, Caledonia was in complete control. Mason McKenzie used his legs for a 25-yard touchdown run. Blake Herron added to his strong start with three additional touchdown carries of 10, 22 and 38 yards respectively. Finally, DJ Walker ripped off a 50-yard score to give Caledonia a 47-12 win.
The Fighting Scots outgained Grand Haven 517-218. Nearly all of Grand Haven’s offense came early in this game. Caledonia rushed for 465 yards in this victory. Blake Herron had 22 carries to rack up 221 yards and 4 carries. Mason McKenzie added 111 rushing yards, while DJ Walker added 94.
Next week, Caledonia will take their 7-0 record into action when they face West Ottawa. Grand Haven slides to 1-6 on the year. They will try to get their latest victory against Grandville next week.
