The Beal City Aggies welcomed Carson City-Crystal to town for the Regional Finals on Friday evening. A hot start helped Beal City seize control, capturing a 34-14 victory.
In the opening frame, Beal City found the end zone twice. Both times, it was Cade Block celebrating with his teammates after breaking the goal line. Block scored on runs of 2 and 4 yards to help Beal City take a 14-0 advantage. The lead grew to 21 points when Block powered into the end zone from 3 yards out.
After the halftime break, Beal City’s lead continued to grow. During the third quarter, the Aggies scored another pair of touchdowns. Block’s big day continued with two more touchdowns. He showed some breakaway speed in his 65 yard carry on the opening plays of the frame, and he followed that up with an 11-yard carry in the closing seconds of the quarter. One missed extra point left the lead one point shy of the running clock, ahead 34-0.
Carson City-Crystal would not be shut out in this game, scoring twice in the fourth quarter. Near the midway mark of the final frame, Doug Billings was the receiver on an 8-yard touchdown pass. With twenty-four seconds to go, the Eagles’ Cade Bolen hauled in a 16-yard score. Mason Smith and Paul Wright linked up on a two-point conversion to round out the scoring.
Next week, Beal City will be playing in the State Semifinals for the second time in three years. They will look to return to the State Championship game for the first time since 2019, when they lost in the finals to Reading. Standing in their way of Ford Field are the Ubly Bearcats, who are undefeated and coming off of a Division 8 runner-up campaign last year. In their Regional Finals, Ubly dominated Breckenridge 65-6.
