The Britton Deerfield Patriots opened the 2021 playoffs against the Deckerville Eagles. Even without quarterback Nico Johnson, Britton Deerfield was able to secure a 36-14 victory.
Mason Mueller stepped into the quarterback role early for the Patriots, and just eighteen seconds into the game, he got Britton Deerfield on the board. Mueller found Gavin Schroen for a 57-yard touchdown pass, giving the Patriots the early 8-0 advantage.
Britton Deerfield continued the scoring run in the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns. Nick Wayne reeled off a 15-yard run to extend the lead to fourteen. With forty seconds left before halftime, Tristan Johnson found Noah McRobert on a 71-yard touchdown pass.
Deckerville finally found the end zone early in the third quarter, but Britton Deerfield responded with a 2-yard run by Tristan Johnson. The Patriots led 28-8 after three quarters of play.
In the final frame, scores were exchanged once again. Tristan Johnson was able to score his third touchdown, adding a 4-yard carry for the final six Britton Deerfield points.
Tristan Johnson was 3/5 passing for 90 yards, and he added 111 rushing yards to the offense. Nick Wayne matched his rushing total with exactly 111 yards.
Next week, Britton Deerfield will square off with defending State Champion Adrian Lenawee Chrsitian in a rematch of a Week 9 showdown. In that game, the Cougars captured a 41-20 victory.
