Fruitport fell behind early in their Week 8 OK Blue battle against Allendale. A strong finish in the final three quarters allowed the Trojans to rally for a 22-14 victory.
In the first quarter, Allendale struck first, as Josh Gunneson rushed for a 25-yard touchdown. Adiel Garcia-Lugo booted the extra point, giving the Falcons a 7-0 lead.
Fruitport would respond in the second quarter when Paschal Jolman carried the football 5 yards for a score. They would take a 14-7 halftime lead when Gavin Reames found Cody Nash on a 60-yard score. Jolman hauled in a conversion pass from Reames.
Allendale would even the count in the third quarter, as Mike Casler rushed for a 16-yard touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Fruitport won the ball game with a 90-yard sprint to the end zone by Pascal Jolman.
Pascal Jolman had 184 yards on 14 carries for Fruitport, who rushed for 220 yards as a team. Gavin Reames finished 5/10 passing for 133 yards in the victory.
Allendale’s Cole DiPiazza was held out of the end zone, despite rushing for 227 yards on 32 carries. The Falcons as a team turned 54 carries into 401 yards of offense. They were doomed by four turnovers, two fumbles and two interceptions.
Fruitport has evened their record at 4-4 with this win. They have a sliver of hope for a playoff spot, but they face Unity Christian next Friday, needing a herculean effort to advance past the ‘Saders. Allendale, now 3-5, concludes their regular season with Spring Lake.
