The Zeeland West Dux have scored 60 points in at least one game in each season since 2018. This week, they reached that plateau, dominating Wyoming 72-6.
Three plays into this game, the Dux got on the scoreboard. Parker Holman reeled off a 30-yard touchdown, pushing West ahead by eight. They scored on their next drive as well, a 20-yard run by Cade Overweg. Midway through the frame, their lead was 24 points as Skyler Geurink ran it in from five yards, a short field set up by a botched punt. Before the quarter ended, the Dux got a 15-yard score from Geurink to push the lead to 32 points.
Early in the second quarter, the Dux padded their lead. Skyler Geurink showed a display of power and agility, stiff-arming and juking the Wolves’ defenders on a 35-yard score. Griffin Hoekwater powered into the end zone from 2 yards out. After a safety on an errant punt snap, the Dux increased their lead to 58 points with a Rolando Robelin touchdown run.
Bernie Varnesdeel got Wyoming on the scoreboard with a scoring toss to Ramere Draper. This moved the score to 58-6 in favor of the Dux after one half of play.
With the running clock in effect, possessions were limited. Zeeland West still managed to find the end zone twice. Hayden Reider capped off a third quarter drive with a 4-yard carry, and Joey Arendsen rounded out the scoring with a 14-yard run.
Next week, Zeeland West (3-2) will take on Union. Wyoming will face off with Zeeland East in search of their first victory of the fall.
