The Grand Valley Christian Patriots, fresh off their win against Middletown Christian, hit the road on Saturday afternoon. They travelled to Aurora, Illinois, where a showdown with the #8 ranked Illinois Crusaders awaited. A strong defensive effort, paired with a trio of offensive scores, led to a 20-6 statement victory.
Lex Underhill had another strong game as the Patriots’ signal caller. He tossed for a pair of touchdowns in this win. On both scores, Underhill paired up with Jaeshawn Hughes. One of Hughes’ touchdowns was a remarkable one-handed snag. Ace Crews also got in the scoring column as well, when he caught a two-point conversion on their second touchdown of the night.
The Grand Valley Christian defense made a large impact as well, forcing four interceptions in this game. Jaeshawn Hughes and DJ Keyes each hauled in an interception, while Khi Garcia collected two. One of Garcia’s interceptions was returned for the Patriots’ third touchdown of the evening.
With this win, Grand Valley Christian is now 2-1 on the season. Next Saturday, they will return home for a game with the Washtenaw Saints. That game will take place at 6:00 PM at Skinner Field in Cedar Springs.
