The Kelloggsville Rockets began their 2021 season against the Trojans of Owosso. It was an offense display, with plenty of fireworks. In the end, Owosso was able to emerge victorious by a count of 49-28.

From the opening kickoff, Owosso was dialed in. The Trojans built a 30-8 halftime lead thanks to stellar play from a variety of team players. Despite these struggles, the Rockets didn’t roll over. They battled their way back into the ballgame, drawing within one score at 36-28, but ultimately could not get over the hump.

Owosso racked up 460 yards of offense in this victory. Tyler Dewley led the Trojans with 141 rushing yards and three scores. Cody Fields added 93 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Hugh Doyle called the shots for the Trojans at the quarterback position, and he threw for two touchdowns. Defensively, Damien Hart had two interceptions.

Kelloggsville was led by quarterback Zach Zerfas, who was 24/31 for 405 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Jabari Campbell caught eight of Zerfas’ passes, and he turned those into 196 yards and two scores. Camron Townsend also had eight catches, but he reached 152 yards and two scores.

Next week, the Rockets travel to Ionia for another non-league battle. Owosso will also remain in non-league action, as the Trojans take on the Charlotte Orioles.
