The Godwin Heights Wolverines and Manistee Chippewas squared off on Friday night after a myriad of scheduling confusion this week. For a while leading up to game week, it appeared that both Godwin Heights and Manistee would begin their 2021 campaigns against other schools. After cancellations, these two decided in the middle of this week to pair up for a Friday night affair in Wyoming. After four quarters of action, Godwin Heights emerged with a 34-7 victory.
Turnovers were the story in this game, on both sides. Jamarion Collins made an interception near the red zone that kept Manistee off the scoreboard. A few plays later, Jeremiah Drake and Khalil Harris paired up for an 81-yard touchdown pass. Godwin would extend the lead to two touchdowns at halftime when Drake used his legs for a powerful touchdown run.
By the end of this game, Manistee had committed five turnovers and 85 yards of penalties. This allowed Godwin to create separation and ultimately win this ballgame.
Manistee was led by Connor Beaudrie, who turned 17 carries into 88 yards. Nick Hornkohl added 70 rushing yards to their team total. Isaiah Davis led Manistee with eight tackles, while Beaudrie added seven tackles and two forced fumbles.
Godwin Heights will travel to Fowler next week for another non-league battle. Manistee will also hit the road, travelling to Lutheran Westland in non-league action.
