The Tri-County Vikings opened 2021 with their annual showdown against Lakeview. Mother Nature shortened this rendition of the game, but the Vikings were in cruise control after three quarters. Lightning and thunderstorms in the area cancelled the final quarter, but Tri-County will start their season with a 46-0 victory.
Just four minutes into the game, Tri-County got on the scoreboard. Tyler Tompkins used his legs to spark the offense, breaking off a 52-yard touchdown run. Trent Behrenwald doubled the lead with his own 57-yard sprint to the end zone. In the final minute of the first quarter, Nate Lovell sent Tri-County in front by twenty four points with his first touchdown of the evening.
Tri-County pushed the lead further when Tanner Smith powered across the goal line at the start of the second quarter. On their next drive, Tompkins kept the football for a 25-yard quarterback run. This gave Tri-County a comfortable 40-0 halftime advantage.
With the clock running, Tri-County scored just one more time in the third quarter. This final touchdown was the result of Hayden Figley, who stepped in front of a pass and raced thirty-seven yards to the end zone.
Tri-County will begin CSAA-Gold play next week when they host Chippewa Hills. Lakeview will welcome Saugatuck for their home-opener.
