The Freeland Falcons clinched a share of the TVC-Central two weeks ago when they down Swan Valley. On Friday night, they were going for the outright league title when they took on Bay City John Glenn. An early lead helped the team win that undisputed championship by the score of 35-14.
Jacob Kundinger got the scoring started with a seven-yard touchdown run. This scoring play was set up by a Freeland recovery on a botched fourth down snap on John Glenn’s end. After getting a defensive stop, the Falcons only needed two plays on their ensuing possession to find the end zone. Easton Armstrong ran twenty-five yards into the end zone for a touchdown for Freeland, giving the Falcons fourteen points in just three offensive plays. They would take this lead into the second quarter.
Freeland would extend their lead when Bryson Huckeby and Grant Bakos connected on an eight-yard touchdown pass. Before the first half ended, John Glenn got on the scoreboard. Austin Brown ran twenty yards into the end zone for the Bobcats’ first touchdown of the game. It would remain 21-7 as the teams headed to halftime.
Garrett Pistro would push Freeland back ahead by three scores when he scored the second half’s first touchdown. He ran one yard for a score that capped off an eighty-three yard march. Neither team would score the remainder of the third quarter, leaving the lead at 28-7.
In the final frame, John Glenn struck first. Wyatt Werowski scored from five yards out on the twelfth play of a sixty-nine yard march. This drive lasted six minutes and cut the lead to two scores. Bryson Huckeby was able to put the game away with a sixty-one yard touchdown run later in the fourth.
Next week, both of these teams will start their playoff journeys. Their matchups will be announced on Sunday, and shortly after the MHSAA releases them, you can find all of the insight on MSR.
