The Cedar Springs Red Hawks concluded their 2020 regular season with a contest against the Kenowa Hills Knights. After a slow start, their offense got rolling in a 36-6 victory.
Antwuan Nicholls scored the lone touchdown in the first quarter of this game. He burst through the defense of the Knights for a sixty-one yard touchdown. The unsuccessful conversion left it 6-0 as the first quarter came to an end.
In the second stanza, Cedar Springs also got the only points of the game on a rushing touchdown. Da’Montae Barnett ran around the left side for a ten-yard touchdown. Jeremy Campione and Josh Kriekaard paired up on the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.
Coming out of the locker room, the scoring continued. Campione was able to break free in the opening few plays of the half for a fifty-seven yard touchdown sprint. Kenowa Hills would finally break through on a touchdown pass from Andrew Bradley to Cadin Rose from eleven yards. Cedar Springs recorded a safety with a stellar defensive rush to extend the lead to 24-6.
In the final frame, Cedar Springs continued to build on their offensive momentum. Just six seconds into the frame, Da’Montae Barnett added a touchdown run of nine yards to the tally. With just under three minutes to go, Nathan Elliston capped off the scoring with a three-yard run. This moved the lead to 36-6 as the game came to an end.
The Red Hawks rushed for 398 yards on 50 carries in this victory with Jeremy Campione’s 140 yards leading the way. He also added an interception on the defensive side of the football.
Next week, Cedar Springs (4-2) will start the playoffs, presumably at home. Kenowa Hills (2-4) will also start the postseason next week, against an opponent announced on Sunday.
