The MHSAA basketball playoffs are in full swing this week, as both boys and girls basketball are in the “win or go home” portion of the season. Boys basketball begins district play this week, while the girls are onto the regional round. A preview of the action in both tournaments can be found below:

GIRLS BASKETBALL REGIONAL PREVIEW

Division 1, Region 3 at West Ottawa

In the lone Division 1 regional involving MSR coverage area teams, we have some phenomenal basketball in store. East Grand Rapids comes into the regional with a 21-1 record, defeating East Kentwood in the district finals. Reeths-Puffer enters the regional with a 21-2 record, knocking off Muskegon in the district finals. Rockford has a 16-6 record entering the regional, and they defeated Forest Hills Northern on Friday in the district final. Finally, Hudsonville comes in at 21-1 on the season, with a district title victory over Jenison.

On Tuesday night, East Grand Rapids will face Reeths-Puffer at 5:00, with Rockford and Hudsonville set to take place afterwards. The winners will play on Thursday at 7:00.

Division 2, Region 11 at Sparta

Grand Rapids Christian enters this regional with a record of 20-3, and they defeated Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the district finals. Newaygo will enter the regional at 16-7 on the season, and they defeated regional host Sparta in last week’s district finals. West Catholic comes into the district with the best record, as the 22-1 Falcons defeated Holland Christian in the district finals to move their winning streak to nineteen games. Spring Lake was the cinderella story of this region, as they upset Montague to advance to the regionals with their 8-13 record.

On Tuesday night, Newaygo and Grand Rapids Christian will play at 5:00, with West Catholic and Spring Lake set to square off immediately afterwards. The winners will play on Thursday at 7:00.

Division 2, Region 12 at Otsego

Hamilton enters the regional finals with a 14-9 record, having taken down Coloma in the district finals. Battle Creek Harper Creek will enter the regional at 20-3, after they defeated Plainwell 43-30 in their district finals. Three Rivers is another 20-3 program, and they took down Edwardsburg to advance to the regionals. Finally, South Christian enters the regional finals at 13-10. The Sailors defeated Wayland in their district championship game.

On Tuesday night, Hamilton will square off against Harper Creek at 5:00, with Three Rivers and South Christian set to tip off after the conclusion of the first game. The regional championship will be Thursday at 7:00.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL DISTRICT PREVIEW

The Boys Basketball districts will begin on Monday with the first-round action. Select Monday games will be at non-host sites, indicated below. The winners will advance to Wednesday’s district semifinals, joining the teams that received a bye. On Friday, the district finals will be held.
