The North Muskegon Norsemen welcomed Ravenna to town for a West Michigan Conference battle. Despite scoring first, North Muskegon could not hold on to the lead. In the end, Ravenna secured a 17-6 victory.
With four minutes left in the opening quarter, the Norsemen found the end zone. Denny Belmonte, a tremendous basketball player for North Muskegon, powered across the goal line from two yards out. A missed extra point left the Norsemen ahead by only six.
Scoring was kept at bay until the closing seconds of the first half. With thirty nine seconds remaining in the half, Kyle Beebe aired it out in the direction of Hunter Hogan. Hogan hauled it in and completed a 35-yard scoring play. His extra point kick gave Ravenna a 7-6 halftime edge.
In the second half, Ravenna scored all 10 points, adding insurance to their lead. Hunter Hogan used his running ability in the third quarter, carrying the football into the end zone from four yards out. Early in the fourth quarter, he used his boot, converting on a 36-yard field goal.
Ravenna improves to 5-2 with this win over North Muskegon. WMC play concludes next week, with Oakridge on the schedule. North Muskegon, now 2-5, will face Mason County Central on Friday.
