The Freeland Falcons, fresh off a crushing defeat against Frankenmuth, looked to respond in their Week 9 finale against Cadillac. It was an opportunity to play a team that has put together a competitive Division 3 season prior to starting the Division 4 postseason. Another strong defensive showing by the Falcons allowed them to bring home a 28-8 victory.

On its very first possession of the evening, Freeland found the end zone. Max Hyde completed a 48-yard option pass to Zander Wheatley, finishing an eight-play, 96-yard touchdown drive. A failed conversion left it 6-0 in favor of the Falcons.

Freeland would add eight more points to their lead in the second quarter, when Owen Case reeled off a 38-yard touchdown run. Jake Metiva and Wheatley paired up for a conversion pass.

Max Hyde returned to the end zone in the third quarter, scoring on a 9-yard carry. Metiva added another successful two-point run to extend the lead to 22 points.

In the fourth quarter, Freeland added one more touchdown. Keenan Cooper powered his way across the goal line from a yard out, giving Freeland its 28-0 lead. Cadillac would score later in the fourth on a 12-yard passing touchdown.

The Freeland defense was stout once again, forcing five Cadillac turnovers. The Vikings were only able to muster up 23 rushing yards the entire contest. Freeland’s offense did more than enough to win, but will likely need to be more precise in the postseason.

Both Cadillac (4-5) and Freeland (8-1) have their sights set on the postseason, and their fates will be confirmed on Sunday. This would be the first playoff berth since 2022 for the Vikings, while Freeland has secured its 17th straight trip to the postseason.
