The Freeland Falcons flexed their muscles on Friday night, soaring past Flint Powers Catholic in a 61-6 win.

On the opening play of the game, Jake Metiva coughed up the football. This gave the Chargers excellent field position, taking over at the Freeland 10 yard line. Three plays later, Powers crossed the goal line on a pass from the pair of Javonte Ross and Alex Bassett. A failed conversion left the Chargers ahead 6-0.

This momentum would instantly evaporate, as Freeland proceeded to score 61 unanswered points. Twenty-two of those points came in the opening stanza, on a trio of touchdown runs. Braden Petrie started the scoring with a 2-yard carry. That was followed up by a 4-yard run by Parker Lentner. Finally, Max Hyde ripped off a 45-yard sprint past the Chargers defense.

In the second quarter, the scoring continued. Freeland found the end zone quickly, on another lengthy run by Max Hyde. His sprint across the goal line covered 53 yards, and was followed up by a conversion pass to Jacob Clawson. They followed that up with a defensive score, as the stout Freeland bunch forced a safety.

On Freeland’s next score, Metiva aired it out, pairing up with Wilson Huckeby for a 23-yard touchdown. Hyde completed his hat trick on the next Falcons’ drive, bolting for a 25-yard score. Finally, Braden Petrie pulled off a lengthy touchdown burst with an 88-yard sprint past the entire Chargers’ defense.

With the score sitting at 54-6 as the teams entered the locker room, the running clock expedited the second half. In limited possessions, Freeland found the end zone once. Parker Lentner scored for a second time, this touchdown coming on a 57-yard carry.

This was another dominant showing for Freeland, who improves to 4-0 on the season. They have now outscored their opponents 195-12 in four games. Next week, they will return to TVC-Red action when they face the Alma Panthers.
