The Falcons of West Catholic have been a constant powerhouse for the past decade-plus, first under Dan Rohn, and now again under Landon Grove – one of the state’s bets young head coaches that won a title in his first season in 2022 and would only lose once in 2023, to eventually state champion (and rival) GR Catholic Central in the regional final.
The Falcons again will be replacing a lot of big names, starting with the QB spot. Juniors Grady Augustine and Jackson Lumen Christi transfer Cal Peterson are expected to battle for the starting job in camp, and Coach Grove expected each to play often this season. The offensive line will again be a strength for W.C., as they welcome back a trio of starters along the line: 310 lb LT Dakota Miron, 305 lb LG Gabe Powers, and 6’6’’ 265 lb RT Jacob Timmer.
The secondary is expected to lead the way on the Falcon defense. They return Connor Olszewski and Gabe Schwieters (All-State CB) as leaders of a high-flying secondary. Three year starter Chris Schaub is also back at inside linebacker, where coach Grove describes him as a ‘coach on the field’ for the Falcons as a very IQ player in the middle of everything.
West Catholic will see a very difficult 2024 schedule this year that includes a trip Cincinatti Elder in Ohio and games against Coorsville, South Christian, Forest Hills Eastern, and a season-finale against Zeeland West.
