TEAM OUTLOOK

Spring Lake returned to the playoffs in 2023 with coach Cody Mallory’s Flexbone offense, he now enters his third season and expectations are high as they move into the new-look OK-White in 2024.

Senior Reid Grimmer will be the starter for a third season at QB, he understands the offense incredibly well and is a threat through the air and on the ground in the Lakers triple option attack. Carson Hein will anchor the offensive line at Center, Hein is a GVSU commit and another three-year starter. Expect to see a deep rotation in the skill position group, as they will be able to share the load between a wealth of talented players.

On defense, junior twin brothers Owen and Oliver Smies are both physical and intelligent leaders at linebacker. Senior safety Alex Bakita will lead the way in the secondary and Gabe Trask will play alongside the Smies brothers at outside linebacker.

Spring Lake moves from the OK-Blue to the OK-White this year and will see several really tough opponents in and out of conference play, including a four-game road stretch starting week two – all against teams that made the playoffs in 2023.
