Andrew Biedenbender returns for his second season at Grand Haven in 2024, and the GVSU football alum is looking for another year of toughness and improvement out of his Buccaneers squad that went 1-8 last year, but have some strong returning and new talent that could help lead to a leap, despite the toughness of the OK-Red slate they are faced with every season.
The offensive story starts with a bit of a chance in 2024 at the QB position where Luke Berry moves into the starting QB spot, after he started two games there last year. Many games the past couple of years by senior Xzavier Rodriguez, the all around athlete will be back as a true ‘swiss army knife’ this season, expect to see him back taking snaps in the slot and also at points as a wildcat QB this year. Senior WR Will Korenstra is another terrific athlete that recently announced his commitment to GVSU, they will do all they can to consistently get the ball in his hands. The staff also thinks highly of their 3-sport athlete TE Alex Dixon, who they feel will be due a breakout 2024 season as he transitions from WR to TE.
Connor VanBeek will lead the defense with his signature energy, the linebacker has several D2 offers. Dean Mattson is a 3-year starter moving to a new spot in 2024, after making past appearances as an LB, he’ll lead the secondary at safety this year. Juniors Carson Tithof at DL and Levi Tubergan an ‘old-school’ (as his coach describes him) linebacker will also make a big impact.
