It was a tale of two very different seasons from 2022 to 2023 for coach Nate Smith and the Fruitport Trojans, after winning 8 games in 2022, they failed to win in 2023. The Trojans will play in the new widespread OK-Silver conference and hope to make 2024 look more like the 2022 season, as they get healthy and bring back a lot of experience this season.
One of the returners from last year’s team will be QB Bradon Dornbos, who will get a second season in the system and be able to grow with a lot of strong weapons around him. One of those weapons is another key returner, DayDay Williams. David Johnson-Jimenez will have a dynamic role as the team’s returning TE – at 6’2 and nearly 200 pounds, he’ll be a weapon in the pass game and as a blocker in the run game. Angel Krueger will be one of the anchors of the offensive line as a 270 pound OT.
Many of the key players on offense will also step into key roles in defense for the Trojans this season. Johnson-Jimenez will play defensive end, and will be joined on the line by Krueger at DT. Andrew Steigman, who will play some FB on offense, will be a linebacker – along with Frankie Kotecki, who also will be one of the team’s running backs.
