TEAM OUTLOOK

Entering his 19th season in Freeland, Kevin Townsend has built one of the state’s most consistent programs, making the playoffs every season since 2008 and being a staple of deep playoff runs with their T offense attack. This year will be a year of some new moving pieces for the Falcons, as they settle some battles for different roles on a deep team in camp and will look to make their 18th straight trip to the playoffs and another deep run to follow.

The quarterback position is one of the spots up for grabs for coach Townsend in camp, this is a T offense that is willing to mix some things up attacking through the air some, and whoever comes out of the talented group of juniors and underclassmen to get the nod will be a key cog in their offense. Junior RB Karson Worth was a part of the 9-2 varsity team last year as a sophomore and will be a key part of the offense either as the QB coming out of that battle or back at one of the tailback spots in the T like last year. Jake Metvia will be a two way stand-out that will play a big role on the offensive side of the ball along with his primary role as a leader on defense, he especially is a supreme pass catcher out of the backfield or out of the WR spot when the team mixes up their look. Parker Lentner is another junior coming back to contribute on offense, he is a stocky and tough runner with a good explosive burst that fits perfectly into his fullback role in the middle of the ‘T’ – along with a role on defense as a middle linebacker.

On defense, coach Townsend mentions Metvia as a key returner that will lead the defense from the secondary. Along with Metvia, the team will get big contributions from junior Tristan Comer, a 6’7 defensive end, who also will play TE on the offensive side of the ball. Junior Zander Wheatley will be a two-way contributor at safety along with being one of the RBs in the team’s mix.
