TEAM OUTLOOK

Pretty safe to say that there was no bigger story in West Michigan high school football this past offseason than at East Kentwood, as four-time Detroit MLK state champion head coach Tyrone Spencer was hired as the new coach of the Falcons, bringing several highly regarded coaches and coordinators with him. East Kentwood is perennially one of the most talented teams in the area already, and now the hiring a coach with the pedigree of Spencer could vault them to the top of the OK-Red (and beyond) quickly. 

Coach Spencer got right to work, looking to recreate some of the dynamic offense that he had at his time at King, and started by picking up transfer junior QB Kayd Coffman from South Christian. Coffman is a dynamic athlete and passer with two D1 offers that was set to be the next in line in the pass-first offense at South Christian and now will distribute the ball to a group of incredible playmakers around him at EK. Included in the group is Elijah Jones, a speedy and slippery RB that will be able to bust big plays in a variety of ways. Along with Jones and a deep WR core, EK features a stout line, led by senior Matthais Granderson, who has multiple D2 scholarship offers on the table. 

The OK-Red features several top offenses, and EK will have the pieces to be able to defend the best of them, especially in the secondary, countering the air-based attacks at places like Rockford and WO. Senior safety Gabe Wolf is a dynamic player that will be one of their leaders, and he’ll be joined by 200 pound strong safety Silas Mitchell alongside him to form one of the most dynamic safety duos out there. Keep your eye on 285 pound senior defensive Tackle Syncere Hobson as well, he has 10+ college offers and is a true game wrecker right in the middle of the D Line.
