With the regular season coming to an end, the Maroons and Trojans were scheduled to face off. The Trojans entered the week 5-1 in the conference and their spot in the playoff was already secured. Holland Christian is 2-4 within the OK Blue and has already been eliminated from playoff contention. The Trojans were able to put 52 points on the board, beating the Maroons 52-21, securing a share of the OK Blue title. This is Fruitport’s first league title since 2012 when they were atop the Lakes 8 standings.
The scoring for Fruitport came early and frequently throughout the whole night. The Jolman brothers have been an unstoppable combo this season and this held up again against the Maroons. On every scoring play, one or both of the Jolman brothers were involved. Their scoring frenzy started quickly in the game with Paschal Jolman running for 19-yards. His brother, Colin Jolman followed this score with a run of his own to the end zone. The brothers then connected to score on a Jolman-to-Jolman touchdown for 20-yards. The only touchdown for the Trojans from a non-Jolman brother came from Cody Nash off a 51-yard pass from Colin Jolman. The Jolman brothers ran it into the end zone three more times throughout the night. Colin had one of those, while Paschal added two.
Throughout the game, Holland Christian was able to construct a few scoring plays of their own. Their first scoring drive game from the legs of quarterback Eli Boyce for 6-yards. It was quiet through the third quarter and action picked up for the Maroons in the fourth. Boyce was able to find Luke Michmerhuizen early in the quarter for six points. Late in the fourth, the Maroons closed out the game with a 17-yard completion from Meta Hoekstra for another six points. Even with the Maroons getting 21 points on the board, they were playing from behind the entire game. They will look to build off this year as their starting quarterback Eli Boyce will be back for his senior season.
The Fruitport Trojans will have to wait to find out their playoff opponent. The Trojans improved greatly this season as last season they entered the playoffs with a 4-5 overall record. They lost in their playoff opener. Fruitport will look to not repeat this result and make a deep playoff run this go-around.
