The Martin Clippers put together an undefeated regular season. They are trying to improve on last year’s State Semifinal appearance, and that journey began on Friday evening against Tekonsha. As has been the case many times this fall, Coach Brad Blauvelt’s Clippers cruised to victory, 41-0.
JR Hildebrand led the offensive attack for Martin with 189 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries. A run-heavy team, Martin did air the ball out four times. Hildebrand completed three of those attempts for 97 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Karter Ribble.
The Martin defense has been stout all season, pitching their sixth shutout in nine games. Bryce Robinson led the defense with 9 tackles. JR Hildebrand and Abe Dykstra each added 9 tackles, while Charlie Martin chipped in 6. Braeden Shanley and Gavin Meyers each recorded an interception.
“It was a good win for us,” Martin Head Coach Brad Blauvelt remarked. “We executed our game plan on offense very well in the first half, and our defense recorded its sixth shutout of the season. We still need to clean up a few areas as we move forward. This is a big week for us, we need a great week of practice.”
The “big week” that Coach Blauvelt is referring to is the upcoming Regional Final against Mendon. Earlier this season, these two clubs played a thrilling game that went the way of the Clippers 28-20. The Hornets dominated Lawrence last night, 56-12, in their playoff opener.
