The Muskegon Big Reds continued their winning ways, capturing their seventh straight victory on Friday night. Zeeland East is the latest victim, falling 62-16 against the Big Reds.
Destin Piggee got Muskegon started with a 70-yard touchdown run on an option play. Later in the quarter, Damari Foster powered into the end zone from a yard out. Paige Westra broke the drought for Zeeland East with a field goal at the end of the first quarter, bringing the score to 14-3.
After a failed onside kick attempt, Muskegon got the football in great field position. Myles Walton capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Dominic Sugin extended Muskegon’s lead with a 20-yard interception return on the ensuing Zeeland East drive. Destin Piggee reeled off another rushing touchdown, a 30-yard carry, to take a 35-3 halftime lead.
Cebe Hunderman provided some early fireworks in the third quarter. He took the football and raced 79 yards to the end zone, giving Zeeland East their first touchdown of the game. Dominic Sugin responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Muskegon continued to build their lead throughout the remainder of this game. M’Khi Guy tossed a pass toward the back corner of the end zone, where Jeremiah Dault hauled it in. Later in the frame, Demetri Chapman rushed for a 29-yard touchdown. The Big Reds would break the 60-point plateau with a 17-yard run by Jakob Price. Cebe Hunderman would round out the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown catch from Austin Keur.
The Big Reds enter the playoffs at 8-1, and as one of the favorites in Division 3. Zeeland East will qualify for the playoffs with their 5-4 record. There is a chance that these teams could square off again, though we will learn the playoff matchups officially on Sunday evening.
