The final weekend of the regular season sees many teams fighting for playoff spots. One of the most intriguing storylines is Grant, who held the #32 playoff spot in Division 5 by just 0.056 points over Detroit Cody. Playing like a team desperately needing a victory, Grant pitched a 19-0 victory over Kent City. The Eagles, who were #37 in the Division 6 playoffs, look like they will now miss the postseason after this defeat.
On Senior Night, the Tigers’ defense started the game by forcing a fumble. Late in the first quarter, Brady Jacobs used his legs on a 4-yard touchdown run. This capped off a 5-minute drive, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.
Within the final minute of the first half, Grant’s defense struck again. Brady Jacobs found Nathan Lang and Cohen Garrod on consecutive pass plays to get the Tigers deep into the red zone. Two plays later, Jacobs used his legs on a 1-yard run that gave Grant a 13-0 halftime advantage.
Late in the third quarter, Grant took over. The Tigers went on an 8-minute touchdown march to ice this victory. Jacobs scored on a 5-yard quarterback keeper with 7:29 to play, extending the lead to 19 points. The Grant defense would complete the shutout.
Brady Jacobs completed 4/8 passes for 50 yards, while rushing for 175 yards. Jacobs was a part of all three touchdowns for Grant in this win. Treyton Railling had 13 tackles for the Tigers, while both Angel Tello and Brady Jacobs chipped in 8 tackles. Zachary Barnhart had 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Grant hopes that this victory secured their playoff berth. They will learn their final fate on Sunday evening.
